This web page is to inform the residents of Thornton of any facility or city service closures that occur due to dangerous and severe weather conditions or in the event of an emergency. The National Weather Service (NWS) is a national agency within the United States Department of Commerce that provides weather advisories, forecasts and warnings for hazardous weather conditions including severe thunderstorms, tornado watches, and blizzards. If an emergency weather advisory is issued, and road conditions become unsafe, please exercise caution and follow the direction of the appropriate official for safe driving. An emergency weather advisory means severe weather conditions are occurring, but have not yet affected your area. The National Weather Service issues this advisory when the storm's path has shifted and could lead to our community being affected by the storm within the next six hours or so.
Accident Alert means that if you are involved in an accident and no one is injured, please do not call for a police officer. Exchange information with the other driver(s), report the incident to your insurance company, and then file a police report later. However, if any of the drivers involved in the accident cannot produce evidence of insurance, please call Thornton Police.
