Thornton Assistance Funds (TAF) Grant Program

Thornton Assistance Funds (TAF) Grant Program

Since 1983, the city of Thornton has provided grant funds to assist nonprofit organizations that help Thornton residents meet their basic needs and enhance their ability to be self-sufficient. Basic needs are identified as food, housing, health and medical, or human services. Nonprofit organizations that help people move from relying on private or public assistance to providing for one's own needs is also eligible for funding. A committee of residents reviews the grant applications and makes a recommendation to City Council.

2025 TAF Council Priorities

On December 10, 2024, the TAF Committee recommended priorities to City Council intended to guide the TAF Committee’s review of grant applications and recommendations for funding in 2025.  City Council supported the TAF Committee’s recommended 2025 priorities.  The Thornton Assistance Fund Committee shall prioritize nonprofit applications for Thornton Assistance Funds according to the following rank:

  1. Housing & Homelessness
  2. Food
  3. Health & Medical
  4. Human Services

Within each category identified above, the Thornton Assistance Fund Committee shall prioritize nonprofit applications that consider the following:

Accessibility: Nonprofits that offer the most accessible services to Thornton residents (e.g., in-home services, nonprofit provided transportation/delivery, location near a bus route/light rail) will be prioritized over those nonprofits that do not.

Percentage of residents served: Nonprofits will be ranked based on the percentage of Thornton residents served of the overall number of people served by the organization.

2025 TAF Resolution of Awards

City Council approved $307,800 in Thornton Assistance Funds (TAF) for 32 service organizations that help Thornton residents with basic needs and help them to become self-sufficient.  This gives Thornton residents the opportunity to have access to food, housing, health and medical resources.  The Thornton Assistance Funds (TAF) Committee interviewed each organization that is working hard to meet the needs of our community. The committee passionately debated how these very important funds should be distributed.  We appreciate each organization that applied for funding and their service to Thornton residents.  We hope that you reapply in the future.

Organizations that receive funding will need to complete and submit a TAF Accomplishment Report online by 5:00 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2026.  Organizations that fail to submit a complete TAF Accomplishment Report by the due date will not be eligible to apply for TAF the following year.  Guidelines for completing and submitting the report will be available in November 2025.
