Overview: Please join us for the annual WinterFest 5K Run/Walk to be held Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Carpenter Park and Recreation Center. Celebrate the spirit of the season with this unique event that is part of the magic of WinterFest, a three day festival of music, crafts, skating, food, ice carving and the arrival of the big guy himself to Santa’s Village!  Event is open to runners and walkers of all ages and ability levels. A special long sleeve tech shirt, professional chip timing and post race refreshments will make this a memorable event.

Registration: Online registration at www.winterfest5k.com and walk-in registration starts Tuesday, September 3. Walk-ins are accepted at the Margaret W. Carpenter Recreation Center, 11151 Colorado Blvd. in Thornton (303-255-7800). Walk-ins will receive their race bib and t-shirt at the time of registration.  Internet entrants may pick up their race bibs and t-shirts at the Carpenter Recreation Center on Friday, December 13, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. or at the race start on Saturday. There is no phone in registration. Cut-off for walk-in and internet registrations is Wednesday, December 11. There will be no registration on Thursday or Friday, December 12/13. Day-of registration starts at 7:30 a.m. near the start line (entry fee goes up $5 on the day of the event). **We will not be able to accept credit cards for day of registrations.  Cash or check only.**

The first 200 who pre-register will receive a tech shirt, those who register after that, may or may not receive a shirt!

What You Get:
In addition to entry in the race, participants will get awesome post-race food and drink and our commemorative long sleeve tech shirt.

Parking: Parking will be in the main parking lot at Carpenter Recreation Center and the Tennis Court lots at 112th and Madison Street. Carpenter Recreation Center is open to the public, so we would like to keep spaces open. You may also park on the south side of Carpenter Park (108th and Colorado Boulevard) if planning to attend WinterFest after the race.

Race Day Timeline: 
8 a.m. – Race-Day Registration & Packet Pick-up
9 a.m. - Runners & Walkers Start
10:15 a.m. - Scores Tabulated/Posted, Prize Drawing
10:30 a.m. - Awards Presentation

Race Chip Timing: Race timing chips are attached to the back of your race bib. Please do not switch race bibs with anyone!

Course Description/Map: TBD

Dogs/Strollers: Well behaved dogs are welcome and must be kept on leashes (4 foot or less) at all times. Please do not block or impede the progress of other participants! Strollers are also permitted.

Bikes/Blades/Boards- For safety reasons bikes, rollerblades and skateboards are not permitted.

Age Divisions: First through third place awards are given to male and female runners in the following age categories (age on race day):

10 and under, 11-14,   15-19,   20-29,   30-39,   40-49,   50-59,   60+

Additionally, overall fastest male and female runners receive special awards. Award winners must be present at the ceremony following the race (or designate someone to pick up your award for you). We will not mail awards to winners!

Results: Following the race, results will be posted online at www.hallucinationsports.com.

Weather: The race will be held barring blizzard conditions or other dangerous weather. Please call (720) 977-5908 for information on cancellation or delay.

Volunteers: If you would like to volunteer to help at the event, please contact mike.coulter@thorntonco.gov or (720) 977-5914. Volunteers will receive a free shirt.

WinterFest: Please join us for this unique celebration on December 13-15 at Carpenter Park (108th and Colorado Boulevard). On Friday, Santa arrives to light the village at 6:30 p.m. followed by choirs, ice sculpting, skating on our artificial pond and more! Saturday is highlighted by a craft fair (10 a.m. - 4 p.m.), concert by the Thornton Community Band (7- 8:30 p.m.) and special fireworks show (8:30 p.m.). On Sunday (5-9 p.m.) Santa’s Village opens one last time for skating, choirs and photos with Santa.
