Thornton Website Redesign Receives National Award

THORNTON, CO… Thornton’s website redesign has received national recognition, winning the 2019 Members' Choice Award for a city with a population of 100,000 – 150,000, from the National Association of Government Web Professionals, (NAGW.)

“We began the research and redesign for the website in late 2017, and it went live in June of this year,” says Thornton Communications Director Todd Barnes. “We conducted focus groups and asked for feedback online because we wanted to make sure we provided residents with a way to find all of the comprehensive information about Thornton and our services, and wanted it from an easy-to-navigate website.”

Award winners are chosen by web professionals from government entities across the country. “This design is the result of resident feedback, and our staff really took that feedback to heart and were able to incorporate it in our website redesign,” says Barnes. “It’s extremely important to us that residents feel comfortable navigating our website, and that they get the information they need.”

Resident feedback came in the form of several online surveys, as well as community meetings. Recent feedback from residents includes:

“I am very impressed with the new website design, great work,” -Steve S.

“I really like the new website. I tried it out on my laptop and on my phone. It has a great layout and I was able to find what I needed pretty quickly,” -Joe B.

“The new website looks absolutely amazing! It is extremely easy to navigate.” -Kathleen P.

The redesign was a combined effort of community feedback, and work by several city of Thornton divisions, such as Communications and Information Technology. “In response to the community feedback and expressed needs, staff redesigned Thornton’s website to provide clear and quick access to the most relevant and requested information,” says Thornton Webmaster Adriana Maldonado. “We are thrilled it’s being recognized by residents, and on a national level.”
