Community Walk-5.4 Miles

August 3, 2019
8 a.m. (Note: Summer Time Change)

On Saturday, August 3, we will meet at the South Platte River Trailhead Park located at 88th and Colorado Blvd.  Drive south on Colorado Blvd at 88th, go around the roundabout and on the east side you will see both a parking lot  and a pavilion, we will meet there.  This will be an out-and-back course with a loop in the middle, so the route can be as short as you need up to 5.4 miles.  We will begin at the Trailhead and walk along the Colorado Front Range Trail (South Platte) and then tour the new Adams County Open Space, Pelican Ponds area (beautiful area that is newly constructed).  Next we will walk around the newly constructed  Riverwalk Ballfields and Batting Cages.  Heading back, we will reconnect with the Colorado Front Range Trail (South Platte).  For those interested in a longer walk, you can either take another lap around Riverwalk Ballfields (1 mile) or continue on the Colorado Front Range Trail (South Platte either direction.

We will depart promptly at 8 a.m. so please don't be late.  Please remember to dress for the warmer weather (hopefully) and wear comfortable shoes.

If you are interested in participating in the program but can't come on August 3, please make sure that we have your email address and we will keep you apprised of the dates, locations and distances for upcoming walks. Please send those inquiries to  The next walk will be held on September 7, 2019.

This is a monthly fitness program designed to help you develop or maintain a consistent fitness program.  City of Thornton Recreation Staff will lead the walk each month.  These treks will be of varying distances and will explore the many different trails around the community.  Come alone or bring your spouse, your neighbors, your children and/or your dog.  This is an opportunity to pursue your fitness goals, meet some new people and enjoy the trails of Thornton.
