City Council

Thornton is a home rule city operating under the council-manager form of government. The City Council consists of the mayor, elected at large, and eight council members, two elected from each of the city’s four wards.

    The city of Thornton is the largest city within Adams County. Adams County was established as a county in 1902 and was named after Alva Adams, the governor who was in office at the time.     Victim services advocates help the victims and family to cope with the crisis at hand. Trained advocates are on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to respond immediately to the scene of a crime, accident or victim’s home at the request of a police officer. 720-977-5172

    Thornton Animal Control is a division of the police department tasked with assisting the public with the care and control of animals.
