Becoming a City of Thornton Firefighter

Persons interested in becoming a city of Thornton Firefighter must submit an application during the posting period to be considered. Applicants for any recruitment process are required to provide any necessary certifications.

Hiring Process: 

We are currently accepting applications for Firefighter Recruit (Lateral or Entry Level), for the 2027 Fire Academy.  Application Deadline:  Monday, June 29, 2026.

2027 increases will be 4% per the current Collective Bargaining Agreement. 

Longevity Pay

Each employee shall receive 2% of their annual base pay per year for each five (5) completed years of service. Longevity pay shall be capped at 12% after thirty (30) years of service.  Longevity pay shall be included in the employee's regular paycheck.
