STEP 1 – WHAT JOBS ARE OPEN?
Visit any of the links on Thorntonco.gov/jobs to see what jobs are currently open. Find a position that interests you. All of our positions require an online application. Review the essential functions and pay special attention to the education, experience, and licenses/certifications. Those two areas will tell you exactly what qualifications are required for each position. See more than one job that interests you? Your profile information will be saved and can be used for more than one job. You will need to answer the supplemental questions again as those are specific to each job and help us determine your fit for the position. For each job posting you will see either a closing date or “continuous”. If there is a closing date, your application must be submitted prior to the closing deadline. Continuous job postings may close without notice.
STEP 2 – APPLYING
Fill out your application. It is important your application show all relevant education, experience, and/or certifications which may qualify you for the position. Your application will be used as a screening tool. Completeness and accuracy are important! Incomplete or inaccurate applications may result in disqualification. Cover letters and résumés are great, but they will not be used as substitution for the application, so be sure to complete the application. Be honest: any false or untrue statements or material omissions in the application, related paperwork, or during the selection process could disqualify you from consideration. Make sure you review each application before you submit to ensure information is correct, current, and related to the job you are applying for. Once you hit submit, you are unable to make any changes to your application. Once you submit your application, you will see a confirmation message. If you do not see this message, your application has not been submitted.
New Account Required?
If you have never applied with City of Thornton before, you may be required to create an account with GovernmentJobs. Several agencies use GovernmentJobs, so do not be surprised if you already have an account. You can use that same account for City of Thornton, just make sure you are tailoring your application to Thornton.
STEP 3 – WAIT FOR NOTIFICATION
Human Resources reviews every résumé and application submitted to determine if the minimum qualifications for the position are met based on what you submit. If you meet the minimum qualifications/preferences we will send your application to the hiring manager(s) for the position where they will also review your résumé and application. We update the status of your application as you move through the process. Check your account on GovernmentJobs for the most update information. Typically, no notices will be sent to you unless you are selected for testing or an interview. Keep in mind that we receive a high volume of highly competitive applicants each month. Depending on the position, the number of applicants can vary from 1 to 500. Prior to reviewing your application, the hiring managers create a list of qualifications and preferences to identify top candidates. This provides the hiring manager with a manageable number of applicants to interview. Although you may see the same position posted several times, each hiring manager may be looking for different qualifications from the candidates that they select to move forward to testing/interviews.
