City Attorney Tami Yellico was appointed by the City Council in 2021 and leads the Legal and Prosecution divisions of the City Attorney's Office. The City Attorney also has the authority to retain and supervise special legal counsel as the need arises.

The Legal division provides legal advice and services to the City Council, City Boards and Commissions, and the City's administrative staff regarding civil matters such as employment law, open records, contracts, real estate development, claims, civil litigation, utilities and local government law, and may be contacted by email at Attorney@ThorntonCO.gov or by phone at 303-538-7210.

The Prosecution division prosecutes all violations of city code in the Thornton Municipal Court. Defendants, Defense Attorneys, witnesses, and all other persons interested in Municipal Court cases may contact prosecutors by email at Prosecutor@ThorntonCO.gov or by phone at 303-538-7210. Police reports, photos, video and other discovery materials relevant to a pending Municipal Court case may be requested by filling out a Request for Discovery form. Paper forms are available at the Municipal Court window.

Attorneys must file an entry of appearance with the Municipal Court and Prosecution Division prior to ordering discovery.
