The brush fire that occurred in Thornton yesterday was a frightening experience for residents and business owners in South Thornton. People in all parts of our city and the metro area were concerned as they saw the smoke rising, bringing to mind the experience we all remember with the tragic Marshall Fire. Weather conditions were at their absolute worst for this kind of event to happen. And yet, now we know it could have been so much worse if not for the rapid response from Thornton’s emergency responders and the assistance of other agencies’ first responders. These professionals quickly and effectively engaged this fast-spreading fire, evacuated people nearby who could have been in immediate danger, and significantly limited damage from the fire. Our regional partners were not only critical in our direct response, but also in back-up service support in Thornton and throughout the region. For their efforts, I am grateful. I am also comforted to know everyone got to witness how prepared and well-trained our first responders are for emergency situations. I am also very grateful for the cooperation and understanding of the people who were impacted in the areas near the fire. Please know we recognize how frightening it was to experience, and your quick actions to direction from the police and fire responders contributed greatly to the efforts. We will now wait to learn more about how the fire started. Please be vigilant and safe during these difficult dry conditions.
