The Park Village Retention pond, located adjacent to the
Park Village Pool at 135th Place and Colorado, will be undergoing
maintenance starting on 8/19/19. The project will take approximately two weeks
to complete. Maintenance work will include routine storm drain cleaning
and restoring the retention capacity through sediment/cattail removal.
Refilling the retention pond will take a few months assuming typical seasonal
As a consequence, area residents can anticipate a temporary odor.

Thornton residents can pick up free mulch for their yards Monday-Friday between 6:30am and 5pm at 8651 Colorado Blvd. The mulch bin is located inside the gate immediately to the right. One truckload per resident, hand shoveling only.

Thornton Park System
There are twenty-five major parks and sports facilities -- plus innumerable smaller parks, water detention and open space areas -- in the city of Thornton, providing plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation and relaxation for residents and visitors.
The Parks and Forestry Division is responsible for the general maintenance of all the above, and manages the City's forestry program. The Parks and Forestry Division's responsibilities also include mowing, shrub and flower bed management, playground maintenance, and park facility maintenance. This Division also provides landscape and turf care for medians, streetscapes, rights-of-way.
