Effective Saturday, February 5th, the City of Thornton will follow the Tri-County Health Department’s mandatory indoor mask order expiration.  Under most conditions, masks will no longer be required for employees and visitors within City facilities, although anyone can continue to wear one should they feel more comfortable doing so. Art programs are held at the Thornton Arts & Culture Center (TACC) Annex at 9211 Dorothy Boulevard; enter at the driveway entrance to access the basement classroom.

Get a chance to experiment with different techniques and tricks to make some amazing watercolor art. All supplies included.

CAMP KIDSTAGE DRAMA WORKSHOP I AGES 6-10

Our fast-moving and fun workshop will have your kids exploring the many facets of theater through fun, thought provoking and stimulating theater games and activities! The participants will meet with our Instructor each day of camp for two hours of jam-packed fun. By participating, students can strengthen and build teamwork, leadership, concentration, memorization, problem solving, creativity, imagination and self-confidence. No acting or theater experience is necessary and first-time students are encouraged to attend.

CAMP MONSTERS AND ROBOTS I AGES 6-10

We have set the stage for creativity in our new Maker Space. Youth are invited to join in making both individual projects and a jointly created assembled sculpture. Gentle suggestions and prompts will help youth visualize and create their own 3D sculpture robot or monster using found objects with time to tinker and follow ideas.

CAMP LANDSCAPE PAINTING - HAPPY LITTLE TREES

Kids, wait until you see the great landscape paintings you can make when you follow along with Kat in this fun step-by-step art camp. We will provide all the paints, brushes, easels and supplies you need to discover the "Joy of Painting". Youth will make a few paintings during the camp and have a lot of fun doing it.

Learn about colors and mixing, brush techniques, layering paint and steps for creating paintings on canvas. Bring a friend and get creative. The instructor will demonstrate lessons at the start of class and participants are invited to work on their projects independently with support and guidance.

Additional Program Information

  • Thornton Arts Academy offers entry-level art and theater classes for youth and adults year-round. 
  • Students are encouraged to sign up for multiple sessions which change every five weeks each season.
  • Fees are kept low with funding from the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) and city of Thornton. 
  • Classes are kept small and held at the TACC Annex; supplies are typically included in youth program fees.
  • At the end of each season, students can participate in an art show or performance to showcase their talents.
