Council Member, Ward 3 (term expires 2027)
Born into a large family, David Acunto was raised by a valiant father, an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy, and a vibrant, intelligent mother. From them, he inherited values of perseverance, self-reliance, collective responsibility, and the fundamental importance of education. This strong family foundation nurtured David's indefatigable work ethic, guiding him to balance a full-time job while singlehandedly financing his college education.
In 2005, David's diligence and tenacity paid off when he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology. Fulfilling a lifelong ambition shortly before graduation, he accepted a position with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff, marking the start of his professional journey in law enforcement.
David's career trajectory took him to the Westminster Police Department in 2007, where he further served the public as an Investigator. However, in 2021, he pivoted towards entrepreneurship and, alongside his wife, April Acunto, established a thriving small family business. Despite this detour, the call of law enforcement remained strong, and by 2023, David returned to his roots, currently serving as a sworn police officer in a neighboring city.
As a devoted husband and father to three children, David intimately understands the everyday challenges working parents confront. Balancing the need for a robust educational system, a sustainable income, secure neighborhoods, and a flourishing local economy are realities he personally faces. Above all, David considers his family the cornerstone of his life, consistently striving to model service and kindness for his children. His unwavering belief is that through serving others, we can engender positive change and secure a brighter future for all.
Having witnessed the peaks and valleys of human nature throughout his career, David appreciates the complex challenges that families, friends, and neighbors encounter daily. His extensive experience as a peace officer, fortified with years of crisis response training, and his insights as a small business owner equip him to effectively manage these problems.
David Acunto's proven ability to engage with community members from diverse backgrounds, identify common ground, and collaboratively build effective solutions showcases his commitment to his role. He passionately serves his community on the council and considers it an immense honor.
