Council Member, Ward 1 (term expires 2027)
Justin Martinez has been a proud resident of Ward 1 since 2016. He moved to Colorado over 20 years ago in 2002 to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder. He earned his bachelor's degree in economics from CU Boulder in 2006, and after graduating he decided to stay in Colorado. He continued to study business and economics as he earned both an MBA and a master's degree in economics. After finishing his studies, he started his career in public service as an economist at the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG). While working as a land use economist at DRCOG he developed a passion for regional planning and local government. In 2019 he was appointed to the Adams County Planning Commission where he served until 2023.
Currently Justin is a software engineer with experience in diverse set of industries. He continues to serve the community on Thornton City Council. His expertise in economics, regional planning, and transportation help the community as he serves on the DRCOG board and as Treasurer of the Northern Area Transportation Alliance (NATA). Justin will always be an advocate for the residents of Ward 1 and all the people of Thornton.
