Council Member, Ward 3 (term expires 2025)
Anthony “Tony” Unrein, a Colorado native, and his wife Barbara first moved to Thornton in 1976 with their two children. Their love for Thornton’s excellent quality of life and neighborly feel makes them proud to continue to call the city home. Both of Tony and Barbara’s children also reside in the Thornton area and raised their children here.
Tony opened and operated his first business, an automotive service and repair business, in south Thornton for almost nine years. During that time, he identified a need for a repair facility specializing in ambulance vehicles. He developed and successfully operated this company, EVMARS, for 36 years. He sold EVMARS in 2016 to Denver Health Medical Center and remained as the Paramedic Fleet Manager until his retirement in 2018.
Tony’s extensive commitment serving the city of Thornton began in 1987 as a City Council appointee to the Thornton Firefighters' Old Hire Pension Board. He served on this board for nearly 25 years. City Council also appointed him to the Thornton Comprehensive Plan in 2007 and the Thornton Revitalized Advisory Board from 2009-2013. These committee assignments motivated Tony to enroll in and graduate from the Thornton Police and Thornton Fire Departments’ Citizens Academies. Tony also serves as a member of the Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT).
Tony’s hundreds of hours volunteering on committees and Thornton-related organizations, coupled with his love for his community, inspired him to step up and make a successful run for the Thornton City Council. Tony takes pride in his country and hometown. He intends to use his ambition, desire, and energy to respect Thornton’s history and plan for a bright future for the community.
