Vision
To capture the hearts and minds of Thornton residents and enhance the quality of their lives through exposure and involvement in the arts, sciences, and humanities.
Creation
The Thornton Arts, Sciences and Humanities Council (TASHCO) Board of Directors was founded in 1991 and organized within the Parks and Recreation Department "to provide for the production, presentation, exhibition, advancement, and preservation of art, music, theatre, dance, zoology, botany or natural history for the City of Thornton and its citizens."
TASHCO is appointed by Thornton City Council which may select five to 12 members, representing each ward, to serve on the Board of Directors for unlimited four-year terms. Members may also participate in subcommittees that meet separately to support annual initiatives such as community events, fundraising campaigns, and public art projects.
Arts & Culture staff serve as liaisons for TASHCO with Thornton City Council, city departments, nonprofit partners, and event sponsors/vendors. Staff provide administrative, budgetary, planning, and promotional support for Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) funded programs, community events, and meetings.
Funding
Staff submit annual Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) Tier III grant requests and reports on behalf of TASHCO to the Adams County Cultural Council. Awarded funds are used to support community programs and projects including the Thornton Arts Academy, OZ Gallery, Arts Thornton music series, and public art. TASHCO is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and accepts donations year-round through Colorado Gives to support its community activities. Click on the Donate Now button below to get started.
