Directing staff to present some preliminary findings about the current state of language access in Thornton to the Council in a future Planning Session. The preliminary findings should cover 1) the number of portion of limited English proficient residents living in our City; 2) the frequency with which these residents come into contact with our different departments; 3) the nature and importance of our services ensuring we prioritize life, safety, emergency response, and critical resources first; 4) the cost and resources available so we can deploy cost effective solutions like shared translation solutions and modern technology without wasting taxpayer dollars; and following this Planning Session presentation, the Council, will be able to come to consensus on the best course of action for creating a language access policy.
