In order to expand customer service hours, Thornton Municipal Court is open 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; excluding Holidays.  Closed Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays.

Thornton Municipal Court is a limited jurisdiction court serving the citizens of Thornton, Colorado. The Court has jurisdiction to hear cases that deal with traffic, misdemeanor, animal, and code violations, as well as parking citations.

The City of Thornton continues to monitor very closely the national response to the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) and will be following guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control Prevention (CDC) as well as State and local guidance.

The Court building is open to the public.

SECURITY SCREENING AND PROHIBITED ITEMS
All persons and visitors having business with the Court shall pass through the front door and must go through the walk-through Magnetometer and their property or belongings shall be passed through the x-ray machine for the purpose of detection of weapons of any nature or any other item prohibited by law, regulation or court order from introduction into this facility by Court Security Personnel or access to the building will be denied.  Only bring items that you need that are relevant to your business with the Court.  Many items are not permitted inside the building.  AT NO TIME WILL UNAUTHORIZED ITEMS BE HELD AT SCREENING STATIONS OR LEFT WITH SECURITY.

Unauthorized items (if not deemed illegal) can be taken back to your vehicle.  If you choose to not return unauthorized items to your vehicle, items will be confiscated as unauthorized property and will not be returned to the owner.  Please reference Judicial Order 1995-1 regarding Court Security Screening.


IN PERSON HEARINGS

Court hearings will be held by in person appearance on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  Trials to the Court, Jury Trials, and other designated hearings (Evidentiary, Contempt of Court, Fact Finding, ID Hearing, Jury Conference, Restitution Hearing and Sentencing) are also held in-person.

REMOTE APPEARANCE – VIRTUAL HEARING

Monday the Court is hearing most cases by remote appearance.  To appear by video using Zoom, you will need to have an electronic device with an internet connection.  The preferred method by the Judge is the use of an iPad/tablet, laptop, smart phone or computer that has a webcam/built-in camera with sound and video.

A tutorial and instructions for Zoom are found HERE Las instrucciones para Zoom se encuentran AQUI.  Per the Judge, audio call only is available but not preferred method of use. Please be sure to test your connection and audio well in advance of your hearing.  

You can join a test meeting at: https://zoom.us/test.  First time users may be prompted to download the Zoom software, and should plan accordingly.

Please email the Court at TMCContact@ThorntonCO.gov to provide your citation number, name,  DOB, and email address to receive the hearing instructions. Please read the Advisement of Rights form located on the right hand side of this page prior to your hearing. If you are unable to participate in a virtual remote hearing, please contact the court for further instructions.

​Thornton Municipal Court accepts online payments

Municipal Court accepts online payments. This provides an additional payment option for those with eligible tickets. Tickets can be paid at any hour of the day, in conjunction with the Court’s case management software through the vendor’s secure website, CitePay USA. The convenience-fee based system covers the cost of this service. Other payment options include drop box, mail or over the phone. Pay Ticket Online.


Directions to the Court:
The court is easily accessible from I-25 and Thornton Parkway. Head east on Thornton Parkway one block to Civic Center Drive, turn left on Civic Center Drive, and take the first left into the Justice Center. The court is located on the South end of the Justice Center just west of City Hall.

Ticket/Summons: If eligible, your ticket will be marked with a fine amount that may be paid prior to your court date. If your ticket is marked as mandatory, you must appear as scheduled on your court date. Thornton Municipal Court has an automated phone call reminder program. The program calls adult defendants who have upcoming court dates and leaves a pre-recorded message with the person answering the phone or with the defendant’s voice mail. This courtesy reminder is intended to assist defendants in remembering their Court dates.

Becoming a Court-Appointed Attorney: Any person charged before the municipal court who is financially unable to obtain counsel and who could be incarcerated if convicted of one or more of the violations with which charged may petition the court for court-appointed counsel.   If you are an attorney in good standing the Colorado Bar Association interested in representing indigent municipal court clients charged with jail eligible offenses, you may submit an application for consideration.
