The city of Thornton does require a permit to park recreational vehicles, motor homes and any type of trailer in the public rights-of-way in residential areas. You are permitted four 72 hour permits per year. Municipal Code 38.430 goes into more details if you would like to know more about the code.
Registration is required before you can apply for an RV permit. Watch the instructional video below to learn how to register.
Now you are ready to get registered. Once you are on the CityView Portal home page you will need to look for "Register" and follow the step by step form. Once you have completed your registration you will not have to register again.

Click on the "Portal Home" link.
Under the Code Enforcement section you will find "Apply for an RV or OVP Permit". You can now sign in using the email address and password that you set up when registering. Follow the prompts to fill out the form. Please have your recreational vehicle registration and driver's license ready to upload. Once you have submitted your application it is routed to staff for approval. Your permit will be emailed to you once it is approved. Oversize Parking (OVP) Permits
Sec. 38-429. Permits for commercial, non-passenger vehicles parking in residential zones. In residential zoning districts, no commercial, nonpassenger motor vehicle weighing 8,000 pounds or more gross vehicle weight designated as a type (b) prohibited motor vehicle in Section 38-386 shall be kept, stored or parked without an approved permit.
No such permit shall be granted for the parking of trucks with three or more sets of connected axles (a set of axles shall mean two connected axles); semitrucks, semitractors, semitrailers, dumptrucks, commercial vehicle hauling trailers, tractors and construction equipment, such as a backhoe, street grader, front-end loader, or other similar equipment.
Any vehicle exceeding any of the following limits: pursuant to this section if such vehicle exceeds ten feet in height, eight feet six inches in width, 24 feet in length or 20,000 pounds gross vehicle weight.
The permit is valid only for the property on which the permit holder resides. The permit is valid only for the specific vehicle and the specific location for which it is granted. Any change of vehicle or of location requires a new permit.
