Program Event Dates

Click & Haul - bulky or large item collections

Event Dates: Click & Haul collections are scheduled during the work week, depending on your address. Thornton residents can use this service to:  Get rid of clutter in the garage or basement, plan a do-it-yourself room remodel, clean up the yard or storage shed, get rid of recently replaced furniture or appliances, or for a rental property cleanup! 

Location: Items must be placed in an orderly fashion (stacked/bundled) at the curb by 7 a.m. the day of the scheduled collection.

Guidelines:  The cost is just $65 per collection for 6 cubic yards of stuff, that would fill two normal sized pickup truck loads. More than two full pickup loads = $109 or more. Restrictions and limitations apply.  The cost of service is placed on the next utility bill for payment. Furniture, appliances, mattresses/box springs, hot water heaters, fence panels, branches, remodeling debris, and evaporative coolers are eligible for pickup.

Restrictions:  NO hazardous materials (i.e., flammable liquids, oil, paint, fertilizer, chemical cleaners, etc.).  NO tires.  NO concrete or masonry demolition (driveway concrete, wall blocks or gravel).  NO televisions, computer monitors, DVD players, and other certain electronics.

Electronic Waste Recycling Drop-off

Event dates:  August 22

Event times:  9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Location:  Thornton's Infrastructure Maintenance Center (IMC) 12450 Washington Street.  Use the north entrance with access on 126th Avenue east of Washington Street.

Guidelines:  Adams County and the city of Thornton invite residents to bring their electronic waste (computers, laptops, tablets, cell phones, televisions, computer monitors, hard drives, DVD players, scanners, printers, radios, etc.) to Thornton's  Infrastructure Maintenance Center on Saturday, August 22, 2020 for a recycling event. Items will be recycled safely and responsibly to ensure a high level of data destruction for desktops, laptops, and other data containing equipment. There will be a $15 per vehicle fee for items dropped off, including all electronics and one TV/CRT monitor. Vehicles with up to three TVs/CRT monitors will be charged $25. Cash and credit card will be accepted.

THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO ALL RESIDENTS OF ADAMS COUNTY ONLY.  NOT ACCEPTED: TVs AND MONITORS WITH EXPOSED TUBES. ANYTHING THAT CONTAINS FREON OR OTHER CHEMICALS.

Fall Leaf Drop-off

Event dates:  November 7

Event times:  8 a.m. - Noon

Location:  Thornton's Infrastructure Maintenance Center (IMC) 12450 Washington Street.  Use the north entrance with access on 126th Avenue east of Washington Street.

Guidelines:  Thornton residents may bring fall leaves to the IMC.  Proof of residency is required.  You will be responsible for unloading all material.  Leaves must be placed in BPI certified fully compostable bags, paper sacks, or be prepared to open any other bag and empty on site.  

Landfill Days

Event dates:  September 19

Event time:  7 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Location:  Republic Services Tower Landfill located at 88th Avenue and Tower Road in Commerce City

Guidelines:  On specified dates, Thornton residents may take non-hazardous debris to a designated landfill and the gate fee is waived.  One vehicle load per household.  All loads must be covered. Commercial loads are subject to applicable fees. Pickup trucks, cars, and small single-axle trailer loads only.  Proof of residency is required and limitations apply. Freon charged units (refrigerators, A/C units, and freezers) and electronics such as televisions and computer monitors will not be accepted.  No tires, car batteries, medical waste, ammunition, fireworks, fluorescent bulbs, or liquids of any kind.  Mattresses are subject to an additional fee of $30 each.  


Tree Branch & Compost Drop-off

Event dates:  August 8, September 12

Event times:  8 a.m. - Noon

Location:  Thornton's Infrastructure Maintenance Center (IMC) 12450 Washington Street.  Use the north entrance with access on 126th Avenue east of Washington Street.

Guidelines:  On specified dates, Thornton residents may bring tree branches, limbs, and compostable material to the Infrastructure Maintenance Center (IMC) 12450 Washington Street.  Proof of residency is required.  Residents will be responsible for unloading their branches and all compost material.  Compost material must be placed in BPI certified fully compostable bags, paper sacks, or be prepared to open other types of bags and empty on site. Residents must follow social distancing guidelines, staying at least six feet away from City employees and others at all times.


Veolia Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off

Event dates:    Wednesday, September 23 & Saturday, September 26

Event times:  9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Location:  Veolia Colorado Household Waste Recycling Center located at 9131 E. 96th Avenue, Henderson, CO 

Guidelines:   On specified dates, Adams County residents may bring their unwanted household chemicals to the Veolia Colorado Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Center. Most items will be recycled safely, keeping them out of our natural environment.  Adams County residents will pay a discounted fee of $.85 per pound to drop off their items and the normal $20 vehicle fee will be waived on event dates only.  Proof of residency is required.  Cash and credit card will be accepted.

No charge to drop off architectural paints and stains only.

Acceptable Items include:  insecticide, bathroom cleaners, rust remover, photo chemicals, degreasers, weed killer, latex paint, stains, furniture polish, fire extinguishers, laundry products, fuel, solvents, rodent poison, oil filters, floor cleaners, oven cleaners, moth balls, lacquers, rechargeable batteries.

Unacceptable items include:  radioactive material (smoke detectors), used needles, prescription pain killers, explosives (fireworks, ammunition), tires, trash.

Online registration will be available 6 weeks before event date.
