Thornton Council Member Jacque PhillipsI grew up in the Midwest with four brothers. I moved to Colorado in 1984 and I attended University of Northern Colorado and then Denver University. My daughter graduated from CU-Boulder and DU. I have grandchildren in elementary school.

My education includes a Bachelor’s, Masters, Doctorate and a Law Degree. I am licensed to teach math and to teach students with emotional/behavioral disabilities. I was previously the Director of the Special Education Department at Adams State University and an adjunct professor for UNC and UC-D. I was a professor at the University of Hawaii for 2 years.

My work experience includes developing international education programs so American families living/serving overseas have access to teachers who can teach children with disabilities. I have implemented inclusionary programs for American and international students in Kenya, Burma, and Saudi Arabia. Living and working overseas has motivated me to take advantage of the many opportunities we have here, in the U.S.

I currently run my own business on 84th Ave. where I am an attorney. We help get students with disabilities educational services. We also work to stop the School-to-Prison pipeline. I am passionate about both issues.

I am a member of multiple professional organizations and my record of volunteer service is extensive.

I moved to south Thornton, from Denver (Uptown), in 2007. I knew it was a “revitalization area” with high crime. I am deeply committed to my neighborhood and the hard working people who live there.
